Dental care support for those aged 67 and over – how tiotandvård (STE) works

Since 1 January 2026, special dental care reimbursement (STE), also called tiotandvård, has been available. For covered treatments, you pay 10 percent of the reference price. The state pays the rest.

Who is eligible for the support

The support applies from the year you turn 67 – you do not need to wait until your birthday. In 2026, it applies to those born in 1959 or earlier. You must be entitled to state dental care support in Sweden.

    What is included

Examples include fillings, root canal treatments, tooth extractions and treatment for periodontitis. New crowns, bridges and implants may be covered in the front ten tooth positions in each jaw, up to and including tooth 5 on each side counted from the centre. The dentist assesses what is covered in your case.

What is not included in STE

Examinations, X-rays and preventive care, such as preventive dental cleaning, are not included. New crowns, bridges and implants further back in the mouth are not covered either. Standard dental care support may apply to such care. Purely cosmetic dentistry, such as teeth whitening, receives no state support.

    Hur mycket betalar du

The reference price is the price set by the state for a dental procedure. For procedures covered by STE, the clinic may not charge more than the reference price. If the clinic's price is lower, you pay 10 percent of the lower price. Materials are included.

    Calculation example

If the reference price and the clinic's price for a procedure covered by STE are 2 000 kr, you pay 200 kr. Examination and X-ray charges may be added separately. This example is not a price quote for a specific treatment.

    Do you need to apply

No. We check your support and deduct the reimbursement when you pay. Before treatment begins, you receive information about which parts of the treatment are covered and what you will pay.

Your dental care allowance remains available

From the year you turn 67, the general dental care allowance (ATB) is 600 kr per year. It can be used for examinations and preventive care, for example. Ask us how much of your allowance you have left.
