After a successful root canal, the tooth usually functions as normal. In some cases, treatment may need to be divided into several sessions, with a bactericidal agent and a temporary filling between sessions. Root canal is painless in most cases, and sometimes the infection is only discovered through X-rays because the nerve is already dead.
